I think that Star Trek explained it better with its non-interference policy. It never goes well when primitive civilizations acquire radically new technical knowledge as it's often weaponized to either destroy or conquer or enslave their enemies. Plus, we shouldn't expect extraterrestrials to be altruistic and want the best for us, since they've observed how we treat others on this planet they may decide to treat us likewise. Another thing that we must consider is that an advanced civilization (type 6, for instance) would possess technology so advanced that we couldn't detect it. Radio waves and electro-magnetism may be too primitive for communication in their realm of existence. Any sufficiently advanced 'loud' civilization wouldn't befriend us. They'd ignore us, enslave us, or destroy us. An early Twilight Zone episode showed an alien zoo with a human inhabitant. They might see us as exotic or cute and cuddly when we're young but then very problematic when we're old. Humanity, as a whole, is weak in mind and body. What use would we serve except as a cautionary tale for their children? Extraterrestrials communicating with Humanity may also be compared to humanity communicating with ants. Even if we could communicate with ants what benefit could they impart to us? The same could be said of extraterrestrials trying to communicate with our smartest people. I think that aliens would be more interested in our arts and music.

Well to answer the first 40 seconds of the video, the answer for why we have yet to see aliens is simple. 1st; the time light, etc, takes to travel. For all we know there IS other life out there, we just can't see nor find it because they were yet to be there during the moments our technology can see. 2nd; We love to base our searches off of what we know of ourselves and as such underestimate what could be out there. Who knows what else may have managed to evolve out there. The Apollo missions were the only times that man left our atmosphere and we only did that for political reasons, not scientific. A CME will set us back 200 years (i.e. life before electricity), and one is predicted to occur within the next 10 years. On a galactic time scale, our 200 year techno-signature would be an insanely brief blip that would likely never be noticed by anyone in the galaxy.

The plans you talk about in this video are not only difficult, they are almost impossible. It is extremely difficult to imagine that this can actually happen. I think we will certainly reach the first level of civilization. Surely we will establish contact with several extraterrestrial races, but it is unlikely to go further. To implement such plans in the next million years, every Earthling will have to become a highly qualified scientist and work on this idea, not to mention the fact that we will have to give up entertainment and culture since all the money in the world will be allocated only for starships and the transition of civilization to the second level, but is it worth it?
