My own thought on this is that these beings do indeed know about us, but actively avoid us under the pretext of humanity essentially still being extremely primitive. We still fight among ourselves over physical differences, political differences, and resources to take for ourselves. Along with that, we have access to incredibly destructive weaponry and constantly point them at each other like tribes of cavemen arguing who has the bigger spear. If we were allowed to expand vastly into the galaxy as we are now, many beings would see us as a grave threat given how little it can take to set us off and how destructive we can be. If Earth is as rare and special as we believe, the risk that such goldilocks worlds could be destroyed over petty reasons is just too big. The fact that we still see our own species as the biggeat threat just shows that we we are simply not ready to reach out into the stars, and sadly it will be some time before we are, likely not in our lifetimes.

It's extremely hard to have a decent theory about this stuff because we simply don't have enough information to make a viable hypothesis. I also found the parts where you explained how we are only searching for exo-planets with suitable traits for only human life, and extraterrestrials might be doing the same very interesting and true. Life on Earth needs water, is carbon based, uses DNA and all of that stuff, but there is literally no proof that every other life form has to use all that too, which confuses me why the James Webb telescope is only looking for planets with he same temperatures, gases, and water levels as Earth. I also think that our theories about how advanced aliens will do things is most likely incorrect, i.e. the alien drone swarming planets. It seems like the most effective option to us, and maybe it is, but an advanced civilization would definitely come up with a much better idea if there is one which there most likely is.

My theory for why we haven't come across alien life yet, is due to the Catastrophe Scale. Every few hundred thousand years, our planet undergoes, basically, a great extinction event. Such as mega-volcanic eruptions, major Comet collision, or massive flood. My thoughts is that we are not alone, but also not alone with having this scale. It's very possible that other worlds go through a similar process, to where their species is unable to evolve technologically, or otherwise, to be capable of interstellar travel. Astronomers have been witnessing such events outside of our solar system already, so where worlds may be ended by a supernova, or some other events, it may be ending an alien species before they could travel amongst the stars. I know that someday through evolution and technological growth will bring us, or Earthens, to meeting alien races during interstellar travel. Reason why I said Earthens, is because it is not at all impossible, and simply fairly plausible, that humanity may not live to see interstellar travel. It is inevitable though, and this is why I believe that we should leave behind an archive of sorts for the future civilizations to discover, so that our future of Earth can be fortified in the assurance that someday Earthens shall travel amongst the stars.

Since this is the fifth generation of humans, maybe this has already happened. What we call time travellers, could be a previous generation of humans that made it into space before a catastrophic event occurred. And the few humans that were left here became the "cavemen" we know we're here proven by artifacts. It would explain why we now have electric coils encased in stone, and we have visitors from space. The visitors expanded the knowledge they started with, while the cavemen had to go back to the beginning and figure out how to light fires and kill their food with spears. We all drive cars and talk on cell phones, but very few know how to build them from scratch. If you and your neighbor lived thru a supervolcano, it would be back to basics. Your children and grandchildren would forget about your ramblings of cars and cell phones.

I think there key issue here is the vastness of space-time. If we were to find another advanced lifeform right now, it would have to exist in at the same sliver of time as us (we're extremely young) and in really close proximity to us (because we can't even get to the closest planets to us, yet).

And in such cases, we won't need to travel humongous distances or search for intelligent life using all kinds of telescopes. As our internet, which is only limited to us, as soon as we find out how to get connected to UWW, we'll immediately begin to receive limitless information about all we wish to know and then some, including an option to get transported via the aforementioned web. Exactly. Its a shame to think that many humans on Earth lack an understanding of this basic conceptual idea of this theory… it’s really astonishing to consider how much wasted space there might be out there in the darkness of space. And how lost and alone it may seem like we are in retrospect… What we can take from our current understanding about space and life on earth is that very concept may no longer be a certainty… what makes everyone simply go along with the notion of science and what we’ve always been told to be true, based on supposed history and science(that seems to always be changing), versus utilizing the most powerful tool we all possess, our brain, and critically think up our own truths for ourselves… Quite a simple, but complex, question to ask is: just because we can’t see, hear or feel something is there, does it mean it doesn’t exist? When you open up the doors and begin to think outside of the box of what we know and what we’ve been told, the answers it seems we are constantly searching for out there in outer space and the existence and actual purpose of life itself, seems to only make sense in the form of numbers and energy. Energy being light. Sound being vibration or frequencies of wavelengths, and Pressure as it is related to temperature, Gravity being the strongest force of pressure as of what we currently know on earth, all intertwined and held together by a magnetic field, which runs through everything… everything we do on earth as humans our evolution only seems to be expanding the possibilities to incalculable lengths when it comes to time and space. So If there really is other life out there, it’s probably time we take another look(or maybe not look at all)at what we conceptualize as reality, the spiritual aspects of our minds, and open up to a deeper understanding that the majority of the world we live in, in the sense of human consciousness, is not all physical. By only choosing to focus our understanding and rationalizations with our experiences in the physical dimensions of what we, as humans, perceive to be real and actual truth or what our human perception of reality is from seeing, feeling, touching, hearing, smelling, etc., we can, rest assured, be putting up boundaries and placing restrictions in/on our minds and conscious thoughts and behaviors by setting limitations on the possibilities of what the human mind and body are truly capable of, including reaching a higher potential of our mind and inner self, and our inner being. Which would close the door to any understanding about a possibility of expanding or training conscious thought beyond the 1D, 2D and 3D reality that we’ve constrained our minds to, when it comes to our understanding of conscious thought, inner self and how we all fit in to the physical reality of space and time and our very existence. When you consider the distance necessary to travel from one star or galaxy to another, it would only seem plausible to achieve such a distance by traveling at an immensely high rate of speed(such as the speed of light) that we, as humans, can likely agree would not be possible with our current knowledge and understanding of space travel and the physical limitations of the human body in relation to traveling at any high rate of speed not even remotely close to a fraction of light… So if one were to come up with the potential idea of lifeforms from other galaxies on planet earth, I think it would be very difficult to rule out the possibility of time travel with as little of an understanding we seem to have at this point. [Wow. Thank goodness for speek to text technology! Longest comment in history. Now only if it applied punctuation]

What does not get mentioned here is ASI (Artificial Super Intelligence). Could it be possible for an advanced civilisation to even reach broad space exploration without ASI, and if not, could it be ASI is already out there, the species who developed it not even in existence anymore, or certainly not in the state it was during its development? The dilemmas we are confronted with, to create 'safe' ASI, could have gone well for some, but possibly bad for other civilisations, and we could even live under the protection of such a benign godly entity, constantly at war with none benign ASI - a war of 'artificial' Gods, we are sheltered from, at least as long as the benign ASI succeeds. Would we be able to 'see' such a war at play? What would we have to look for to find out if we are protected, considering we'd be talking technology completely beyond anything we can fathom?

It's hard to say. It's one of those questions that we won't know until we know. I like to think that the universe is teeming with life but extinction level events are so common that most don't make it to the level of interstellar travel though a few do. I believe that it's possible Earth was already visited long ago when humans were new to the game. There's so many cultures that depict beings and oddly designed pictures that could be spacecraft. They left but still observe. After the atom bomb detonations, the reporting of UFO's skyrocketed before eventually dying down. Perhaps that was our observers noticing and thinking "shit we better get a closer look and see if we need to stop them from destroying themselves". Now we are detecting very strange crafts that are capable of propulsion systems unlike anything we have and moving almost instantly. Long story short, I believe that gravity is the answer to interstellar space travel and some civilizations figured that out and whether physically they have a presence here or through drones, we are being observed. Right now we are too volatile of a species to make actual contact with but perhaps one day when we mature enough, these beings will come forward. I feel that if they didn't want us to detect their crafts then we wouldn't. So US Navy pilots detecting these UFO's might be our observers testing the waters so to speak and see how we'll react and respond. Us visiting Mars and doing some digging will likely find traces of life since Mars was once similar to earth and maybe that will open the door to whoever is watching us. Whoever it is, it's likely that they aren't aggressive or they'd have already wiped us out. It seems they are curious. Of course I could be completely wrong but it's very egocentric to assume we are the only intelligent life that exists.

I believe life is inevitable. Yet look how diverse life is here on our own planet- many forms of life will probably be unrecognizable to us AS life. Especially if it isn't carbon based. But I believe, if we can solve the distance problem, that there will be life similar enough to us that we can learn to communicate. This is because life that becomes the apex predator on a world, and that has the curiosity necessary to want to explore, will share enough traits that communication is possible. Of course, we have to hope that they turn their energies and curiosity towards exploration, and not conquest.

On the question of why we have not yet encountered or detected alien life, I think it's most likely down to a matter of time and distance. We have only been searching for "others" for a period of time which amounts to a cosmic eyeblink, and our range of detection of any fingerprints of life on other worlds is infinitesimal on a galactic scale. Our galaxy is simply too vast and our timeline has simply been too short.

Unfortunately, so far we have not been able to find out which of them will be correct. I think only time will give us an answer to this question, although it is not guaranteed. I would like to believe that there is someone else in the boundless cosmos and someday, advanced humanity will definitely establish contact with them...I am sure both civilizations would have discovered a lot of new things from this connection. 😏

Given the concept of time, and that we know, for sure, that the universe is actually barely out of it's diapers in a very real sense, by that I mean the age of stars has really only just begun, so it is quite possible that we are alone simply because we are the first, at least, the first in this part of space that we can observe, the first to reach out and ask the question. That to me is the most logical and probable conclusion, and regardless of what other intelligent life will be like, we have a huge advantage in being first. We will go out there, make discoveries, make mistakes, but we will adapt, change to master our new environments, the more time we have, the more secure our future will be.

Perhaps, our extraterrestrial counterparts know that the universe is such an inhospitable place that the comforts of home far exceed the curiosities and impulses to explore beyond their own atmosphere. A few alien races may venture forth into deep space, but the harsh reality is that many won't survive the journey due to their limited lifespans, illnesses, and accidents. And the vastness of space makes getting lost essentially the biggest hazard of all. Even if they do venture deep into the universe many may never return home again or communicate to it what they've found. Their only option may be to colonize the first planet they encounter that is favorable and call it home. Earth may have been such a world. And that would make us the offspring of ancient alien colonists.

I'm not sure what incentive a highly developed civilization would have for conquering us. If they've reached the type of advancement that allows them to travel across solar systems and galaxies, it is doubtful they would need our resources. I'm also not sure why they would want our land. Those are the two primary reasons why we as humans attempt to conquer each other.

First of all, if we find a way to travel faster than light speed, none of this would Even matter. a conscious mind CAN be destructive and very different from any lifeform we know. without consciousness life adapts and develops anything needed for survival 1 example is cooperation like we see it with packs of wolves lions or insects like bees and ants but once it becomes conscious the rules change and survival is not the only priority anymore. maybe consciousness or at least parts of the consciousness is something like a flaw in the system and thats why its so rare but thats just 1 out of uncountable possibilites. that doesnt mean that destruction is a bad thing, its just a part of cycle for life

I think we're focusing too much on finding ET life in space and not focusing enough on different dimensions. Humans have a long documented history of interacting with beings encountered when under the influence of some drugs (sometimes multiple people can see the same entities when in altered states, which proves it's not always just hallucinations), but nobody talks about these creatures as being extraterrestrial lifeforms for some reason. Ancient art across multiple cultures shows humans interacting with strange beings, but we think our ancestors were just drawing fictional characters, when it's possible that they were dealing with entities coming through portals. We have a knack for expecting things to happen the way we imagine them happening, when most things in life actually don't. It cripples our ability to learn and understand.

Here’s my own thoughts on this: The reason we haven’t been able to find life on another world is because we look into the past, and the further we look the further back into time we’re looking. Those planets that we’re seeing probably don’t exist as we’re seeing them. Think of it like latency in a video game, the universe is a laggy piece of shit with only the speed of light as it’s fastest speed. Other species would be having the same problem as us, if they exist concurrently with us. They would be unable to see or hear us for thousands if not millions of years. The same goes for us, especially if we’re one of the first to evolve which we may be.

There's no sensible reason other beings need conditions like ours to live. I saw story about a cave that got covered over millions of years ago. If course I can't remember where it is. So a construction site found this cave. Cave was full of toxic gasses, very little oxygen. At least several different type of insects,a worm I think, adapted and have been living in those gases. There's no telling what other life forms may need or not need to live.

Месяц назадAiden Cook
I think if we get to Mars our species will attract enough attention from anything out there that may be watching us.

Месяц назадMarkus Andrew +1
On the question of why we have not yet encountered or detected alien life, I think it's most likely down to a matter of time and distance. We have only been searching for "others" for a period of time which amounts to a cosmic eyeblink, and our range of detection of any fingerprints of life on other worlds is infinitesimal on a galactic scale. Our galaxy is simply too vast and our timeline has simply been too short.

I do find it a bit tough to believe that amidst the giant scale of this galaxy and beyond that we are alone. Somewhere out there im sure there is evolving microorganisms or even just plant life.

On the piece where he said “life on other planets would have to withstand huge amounts of gravity” considering that we have aquatic life half our size living under pressures that will crumple a submarine like a tin can, it’s easy to assume gravity wouldn’t effect life grown on these planets.

As for interstellar travel, who knows what advances in physics and cosmology may be made in the future? Some of those could enable travel over interstellar distances in very little or no time, *evading* the limit of the speed of light rather than trying to force objects to go beyond that speed. We just don't know what the future will bring.

My main issue with finding life is that we assume all things that exist must live under the same way in which we do and require the same things we do to live...and that just may not be the case ...we've adapted to our environment hence the reason we are able to survive in it...who's to say life forms haven't adapted to harsher environments and evolved the very same way to live in theirs

The reason we assume life will be like ours is because we are water based. Water is an excellent solvent and good base for our chemistry,, its possible for another type of life(supposedly) but we dont really have a concept of how that would work without liquid water.

If we're alone that would be pretty much boring and kinda lonely. I can't wait, it would make life a lot more interesting to know there's more than this, and people's perspective on what's important will shift entirely. Status, and even achievements, all that stuff can get boring too once you've seen it. Discovering alien species would change people's views big time.
Месяц назадCrim Sun
@Pay Star we could easily assume that if there are interstellar beings watching us, or even from our own or neighboring galaxy. We would've already been destroyed, it wouldn't take much for them technology wise. So if they're hostile we would've noticed. I've heard countless of interesting hypothesis about why they could be interested in us. So I'm not counting that out yet. Or they might just see us as ants and got bored. 😂

I think what's pretty scary is if we ever found other intelligent species that just couldn't escape their orbit and visited them, they would experiment on the ones visiting like our Earth would likely try to do to anything visiting us. Anyone volunteering for that? I guess we could always send an AI/robot if it ever came down to it. 😶

Of all the topics that were raised when discussing the cosmos, this has always been the most interesting for me, so I was happy to listen to all these hypotheses, theories and assumptions. Damn it, there are so many of them! Although some are easier to believe than others, I think that each of them may be true.

I found the "chains of suspicion" concept in the Three Body Problem and cosmic sociology rather profound. Humans can basically look someone in the eye and have a feeling on the person. We can usually resolve most problems before they get out of hand because communication is EASY..IF intelligence is out there the wise thing for anyone to do is to shut up and watch and listen. And 1000 years being a blip in cosmic terms ...

The saddest fact of all is with all these luxuries we share, this could be the generation that bring humanity to the next level of existance. all this knowledge and pain suffered by our ancestors only to be repeated because some of us only believe in the mainstream and those who see beyond are forced to see this restricted reality. The universe is vast beyond our imagination. Everyday we find out we were wrong about something we thought we knew about the universe . With that in mind we know nothing . We haven’t even conquered this solar system yet. My point is why does everybody assume they will kill us off ? That’s only the aggressive, violent behavior of us humans , we don’t know what they will do to us. But it’s outlandish to automatically assume they will eradicate us .
Месяц назадmetaspherz +1
