I think that we will have much more interesting and specific information about this in the future. It's great that people are already working on thermonuclear energy in our time, and are achieving success. It seems to me that this kind of energy is the future. Although there should be a place for nuclear power plants in the foreseeable future, since they have been showing their effectiveness for many years. And all other types of energy must inevitably remain in the past, because in the long run it will not be possible to use them. Well, thank you very much for the video. We will be waiting for new details about the discoveries and works in this direction.😏

It isn't infinite, atoms would only combine till something similar till they reach maximum Binding energy per nucleon ( 8.8 MeV at Fe 56 ) if you're considering basic idea about fusion from something out of 12th grade books. Also in these books, it's stated that once fusion starts, It releases so much energy that it makes the other molecules undergo fusion as well. It required alot of energy to melt the Hydrogen till it's plasma state (need temperatures at 3 x 10⁹ K) So you can guess why it's so hard to do fusion Well i know it's alot deeper topic than this but well, that's what the 12th grade books say

What's sad is that as a civilization we hold ourselves back collectively. Instead of coming together as a whole to reach our goals such as things like this with no restrictions or boundaries, we limit each other with greed, money, and ego. Imagine of our worlds greatest minds were able to simply come together with no restrictions of any sorts, the things we would already achieve would be "stellar".

Nuclear Fusion power and Nuclear Fission power is constantly framed as a "this or" discussion. In the future it will almost certainly be a "this and" discussion. We wouldn't be able to revel in the modern benefits of nuclear fission power if not for the past 60 years of practice, experience, and sometimes getting it wrong. Our forbearers started somewhere for our benefit today. We too must start somewhere for our successors' benefit tomorrow.

Yeah well, this has become way too overhyped. The laser beams inserted 2MJ or something like that, and they somehow measured an output of 3MJ. But there's no way to capture this output and turn it into electricity. Not even remotely. And also, the loss in the lasers is not taken into account. So in reality they did not get more out of the reaction than the total power that was required to start it. Don't get me wrong, fusion is very interesting and if we can crack it that would give us unlimited electricity. However, we are far far away from that yet. This side of 2100 seems unlikely to me. If we ever manage to get it working. May end up being impossible to do outside of labs

Infinite energy is an overtatement, tritium is infact incredibly rare and not abundant as said in the video, he compares "thermonuclear" to "nuclear" energy although after even the most basic understanding its easy know that both reactors are thermonuclear but not all fusion reactors are (like some mentioned in the video). the list goes on, I really recommend Real Engineering's video on the helion energy reactor it (he borrowed clips from him and didn't give credit) its definitely much better and more interesting.

@Jackie Mack And Chernobyl was the product of Soviet nonchalance, a terrorist attack would be much much worse because the would hit a target that's way more important and deadly. Shame you couldn't build the powerplants underground , maybe that would help atleast a little.

@Jackie Mack a water plant hit by terrorists would be a disaster to. Imagine if the Neil waterplant got hit by a bomb or something greater. That would probably be as tragic because of the massive amounts of water and dust that would cover towns by the nearby rivers , lakes and would be an agricultural catastrophe. But you are still right a nuclear power plant would be a prime target for terrorists so the best solution is to build them as far as possible from cities.

@Timur Dobrianskyi Cleanest but great target for terrorists and if it hits the fan hundreds if not thousands of evacuations necessary. 600 sq miles around Chernobyl needed evacuation. Where would 600 sq miles of people evacuate to from a huge 🇺🇸 city?

It's literally one of the cleanest forms of energy, which doesn't kill millions of birds like wind turbines, doesn't kill and drain or overfload miles of nature and small towns like water power stations, and does not give out co2 or co that destroys everything beyond eyesight. Sonar energy is second best but, the materials to build the pannels are really hard to get and the amount of space needed for the same output of energy. Nuclear energy is the most probable source.

Question; it was mentioned that this produced 50% more energy than put in bud did that include how much energy was used to produce the helion3 and the deuterium????
2 месяца назад
NoDefiance
Yes, it does include that. For an explanation, Its a rough 50, their achievement of ignition yielded a 0.5 net gain of energy (or ~50%). As approximately 2.05MJ of energy were inputted into the system and the output was 3.15MJ. Part of that 2.05MJ of input energy goes towards the fusion of deuterium/tritium atoms, atoms naturally want to combine and fuse, but the Coulomb barrier is what sits between atoms acting as a wall to stop them from fusing. To make atoms fuse, they basically a throw a whole bunch of energy at a atom until they can push it hard enough into the wall that it breaks, once it breaks there’s nothing stopping them from fusing anymore and the kinetic energy of the atoms slapping together and combing releases the 3.15MJ of energy, and also releases the newly combined atoms in the form of Helium-3. I hope this explanation helps.

They contained a fusion reaction for "a record long time"? I'd like to know how long it was exactly, and how close it puts us to having an "infinite amount of energy".
2 месяца назадXSupremeYX +1

@Jackie Mack And Chernobyl was the product of Soviet nonchalance, a terrorist attack would be much much worse because the would hit a target that's way more important and deadly. Shame you couldn't build the powerplants underground , maybe that would help atleast a little.
2 месяца назадTimur Dobrianskyi
@Jackie Mack a water plant hit by terrorists would be a disaster to. Imagine if the Neil waterplant got hit by a bomb or something greater. That would probably be as tragic because of the massive amounts of water and dust that would cover towns by the nearby rivers , lakes and would be an agricultural catastrophe. But you are still right a nuclear power plant would be a prime target for terrorists so the best solution is to build them as far as possible from cities.
2 месяца назадJackie Mack

2 месяца назадNoDefiance
